About the work :

White Witch Awakening is a photograph by the contemporary English artist Miss Aniela from her series ‘Surreal Fashion’.

The photograph has been taken at Aynhoe Park, a 17th-century English country house, and it stages theatrically a taxidermy collection as well as a live zebra. In the image, which has not been retouched in post-production, a witch awakens the surrounding animals from a spell. The artwork is in permanent exhibition at luxury hotel Crillon in Paris.

Miss Aniela's ‘Surreal Fashion’ series brings together multiple influences and presents staging at the crossroads between fashion photography, classical painting and cinema. Using a complex style that combines natural and artificial, architecture and man, pictorial tradition with digital innovation, the artist creates a visual world that is at times opulent, at times sublime and sometimes bizarre. Each photograph in the series has its own unique aesthetics as well as its own narrative.

These artworks dreamlike atmosphere which they bathe in, is primarily achieved through meticulous attention paid to their locations and the models’ outfits. References to the fashion world is done through the models styling in the choice of costumes, make-up, hairstyles and accessories that recall contemporary fashion shows as well as balls of yesteryear held in historic places, selected today by the photographer for her shoots. Manors and castles have thus become the privileged setting for these imaginary scenes, giving homage to a powerful image of women.  For Miss Aniela, not only the dresses but the animals as well in the compositions are part of the female protagonist’s personality in her images. The photographs are digitally processed in post-production, allowing themes such as animals, mythological creatures or even seascapes to be taken from old masters’ paintings and added to the composition, giving its surreal atmosphere while maintaining its aesthetic consistency.

The photographs are printed with a white margin of 5 cm on each side, therefore the dimensions of the paper are those of the image plus 10 cm.

The price indicated applies to the print alone, without mount and unframed. For all special requests concerning mounting and framing please contact us.
