Small paintings: small is beautiful
In this thematic, we present a selection of small-sized works that are ideal for small spaces. These exquisite works are signed by seven of the gallery’s artists whose creative techniques are equally suited to both large and small sizes.
Japanese painter Lumi Mizutani uses colored pigments, Indian ink and metal sheets to create paintings in the traditional way. Tradition is also the key word in the paintings of Chen Yiching, a Taiwanese painter specializing in Nihonga, a traditional Japanese painting technique that involves the handcrafted production of pigments from crushed minerals and natural glue.
The small size is also available in a landscape format. Spanish painter Calo Carratala depicts snowy Pyrenean landscapes as well as Tanzanian landscapes on canvases whose small size do not detract from the immensity of the subject represented. It’s also in a register of landscapes that the paintings of French painter Valerie de Sarrieu are inscribed. Spanish painter Ramon Enrich works on representing the monumental aspect of architecture in small sizes.
And finally, the representation of smaller-sized landscapes also passes through the prism of abstraction. French painter Frédérique Domergue challenge the codes of landscape painting by adapting them into an abstract language.
