Tom Price: a tale of coal, tar and resin

When he decided to sculpt the human form, Tom Price chose an unconventional material: coal. His phantom-like figures, created using the same mold to progressively erase forms and volumes, evoke both the presence and the absence of their model. They are reminiscent of the “carbonized” bodies discovered in Pompeii, both destroyed and preserved by the ashes that buried them.

This narrative approach, which utilizes materials and techniques to tell a story or give meaning, is the foundation of Tom Price’s work.
