“Photographers are explorers. Looking for new territories, they bear witness to the world’s vastness, interrogate history and question the medium.”
That’s how director of The Rencontres d’Arles, Sam Stourdzé, introduced the 47th edition of this unavoidable rendezvous for photography enthusiasts, which is held each summer in Arles, France.
Appropriately Artistics takes this opportunity to shine the light on the work of some of its photographers. Explorers? They are without a question of a doubt. Be it on board a helicopter, smack in the middle of ruins, under torrential rain, seeking out surprising architectural details or roaming the wilderness of Norway, Bernhard Lang, Gina Soden, Christophe Jacrot, Matthieu Venot and Christian Houge all explore the world in their own way to bring us a host of unusual and wonderful images.
