May Inspiration: So Far, Yet So Close

What separates us?

This May inspirational collection invites us to question the notion of distance.

Distance between the photographer and his subject: from the micro-landscapes of Luca Marziale to the aerial views of Bernhard Lang that blur all scales of perception and transform landscapes into abstract compositions.

Temporal distance with the “How Long is Now?” series by Gina Soden and photographs of places haunted by a human presence that has been absent for a century, or perhaps just a few minutes.

Finally, the distance between humans and nature, from two different perspectives: that of Brad Wilson, who photographs monkeys, birds, or large mammals, challenging the codes of portrait studio photography. And that of Xavier Dumoulin, with his photos of remote mountain villages, taken during the dark night using long-exposure shots: transfigured by artificial lighting they appear to be consumed by a fire or a lava flow, symbolizing the inestimable loss of our mysterious and poetic relationship with the night.
