Exhibition: Sculptor Yann Guillon at OFI Invest

As part of its arts patronage program, OFI Invest has invited sculptor Yann Guillon, represented by Artistics, to show a selection of his works at its Parisian headquarters from May 10 to June 30. His sculptures will be displayed in dialogue with paintings by Oms Rocha.

Wrestlers VIII (2017). Bronze sculpture.

For more than 25 years, OFI Invest has supported the arts by organizing exhibitions and acquiring works of art. Thanks to the group’s close relationship with Artistics, many of the gallery’s artists have had the opportunity to display their work in the company’s Parisian offices, including Guillaume Chansarel in 2020, Chen Yiching and Martine Demal in 2021, and Pierre Yermia and Frédérique Domergue in 2022.

Now it is Yann Guillon‘s turn to exhibit a selection of sculptures alongside paintings by Oms Rocha.

Yann Guillon is a French sculptor born in 1962 who studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris. His oeuvre is characterized by depictions of the human body, especially bodies in motion. The recurrence of athletes and dancers in his pieces exemplifies this interest.

In these bodies captured in full effort, the artist seeks to accentuate the tension and twisting to invite us to see this energy, through which the bronze sculptures express some of the mystery and grace of each human being.

This approach frees the artist from the reality of proportions and the search for perfectly defined morphologies. Most of his works retain a certain rawness, so as not to stifle the spontaneity of the movement that gave birth to them.

However, Yann Guillon‘s body of work cannot be reduced to a single style or a single material. His direct carving technique and his forays into abstract sculpture allow him to explore other languages and other registers in sculpture.

Yet even in the diversity of his pieces, we sense an eternal quest, as in “L’énergie”, an abstract steatite sculpture, or “Couple”, which evokes two bodies caught up in the same motion.

Yann Guillon’s work is informed by his extensive knowledge of art history. In his oeuvre, we see allusions to ancient statuary forms and to masters of modern sculpture, as much in his choice of patinas and subject (“La Petite Baigneuse”, “Le Grand Esclave”) as in the gentle sensuality of the curves, which might remind observers of Aristide Maillol or Henry Moore.

Exhibition open to the public from May 10 to June 30, 2023
Free admission, Monday to Friday 10 am to 5 pm
