Tien Wen: Playing With Fire

Taiwanese-born ceramic artist Tien Wen set up her workshop in Montpellier, France, nearly 10 years ago. She likes to work with clay for the same reason she left Taiwan: for a taste of freedom. The artist appreciates the wide scope of creation that this material offers as well as the sensation of “playing with fire” during the firing stage of her different pieces, when the flames and the smoke devour the surface to turn it into another substance all together resembling metal.
