Biography
Slender bodies, sensual curves, a sense of elegant aestheticism… these are just some of the elements that could describe Klaus Kampert’s photographs.
Klaus Kampert: when art questions the artistic nude
This German artist, who has lived and worked in Düsseldorf, offers us fine art nude photographs of striking beauty and fascinating emotional power. His success is the result of an all-consuming passion for art and a lot of hard work. Since 2010, his work on the artistic nude has won numerous international photography awards, and is regularly presented to the public at exhibitions across Europe.
From fashion photography to nude photography
As a child, Klaus Kampert spent a lot of time drawing, painting and sculpting. His interest in art led him to discover photography. He was 19 when, as a self-taught artist, he took up this visual art. This hobby soon became his livelihood as he began working as an advertising photographer in 1981. Klaus Kampert acquired enough experience to work on his own. Since 1984, he has been a member of the renowned German photographers’ association Bund Freischaffender Foto-Designer.
In the 1980s, Klaus Kampert worked mainly in the fashion industry. It was there that he began to take an interest in nude photography, in the emotion released by a body in movement. His artistic nudes have something of the ethereal beauty and sober aestheticism of photographs from the world of haute couture.
Movement, revealing emotions
In parallel with his professional activity, he developed a personal body of work that quickly took shape in splendid series of fine art photography, centred on the representation of the human body. He worked with many ballet dancers capable of exceptional physical prowess. His photographs sublimate the nudity of these long, slender bodies, and the dancers’ extraordinary physical abilities help to reveal the emotion that Klaus Kampert was looking for in the artistic nude.
Where these two disciplines meet, Klaus Kampert’s art is born: expressive, deeply visual nude photography, always in search of grace and perfection. The body conveys the message and the movement, while Klaus Kampert captures the expression that brings emotion to contemporary photography.
Photographer and director
In addition to his total technical mastery of studio photography, Klaus Kampert was a true director, composing the backdrops for his shots himself; new backdrops for each series of artistic nudes: plinths, coloured backdrops, sheets, ropes, natural elements… and of course an impressive mastery of light: the voluptuous, golden light that transforms the bodies in the Fine Lines series into incandescent curves; or the soft, caressing light in the Porcelain series, which seems to hold the bodies in suspension in the midst of intense darkness.
Klaus Kampert saw himself more as a sculptor than as a photographer of classical or erotic nudes. His work in nude photography does not seek to show external beauty but to reveal the spirit and emotion of his model. He said that his images deal with the human being as a whole.
