About the work :

Princesse Sara is a work by French contemporary artist Cécile Raynal, from the "petites histoires en réserve" (tales from the storage area) series.

This figurative sculpture in smoked sandstone is of a young woman standing, looking straight ahead, arms folded. She is wearing her hair down with a tiara which contrasts with the rest of the sculpture. She is wearing a long skirt made from an emergency blanket providing a juxtaposition with the title 'princesse' and the tiara she is wearing. This element gives a sense to the work and the problems that the artist is outlining with this clay sculpture

« When Sara was posing for me, she brought along the tiara that she wore in my studio. The sculpture superimposes dreams of princesses with emergency thermal blankets, her tiara and her faded souvenirs of her homeland Algeria. »

This sculpture exhibited in the Arts et Métiers museum between 29 May and 26 Aug 2018, part of the "petites histoires en réserve" series was created during Cécile Raynal's residency behind the scenes at the museum in 2017. As per her method, the artist created busts and standing figurines of the people she met as well as animal sculptures (wolves and foxes) recurrent in the works of the artist for a few years now.
