The early morning (Le petit matin) is an artwork by French contemporary sculptor Marine de Soos.

This sculpture is of a young naked woman sitting on a chair, breastfeeding her child. The title ‘Le petit matin’ (‘Early morning’) conveys to the spectator that the scene is of a mother who got up early to look after her baby. The artist was inspired either by a real event or by her imagination, the figure of a young woman sitting down is typical of the artist’s work.

Marine de Soos has long sustained an openness to the world which permeates her career and her work. For each sculpture the artist draws her inspiration from her souvenirs, those of African and Asian landscapes. Whatever the initial image, there is always an emotion attached: "I can only work when I am in an emotional state," says the artist. Emotion as sole guide and at the finish line, an invitation on a voyage steeped in a unique poetry which sends the observer into a state of contemplation.
