About the work :

Aerial Views, Baltic Lagoons 001 is a photograph taken by the contemporary German artist, Bernhard Lang in 2021.

The photographer takes us over the world's largest oil shale-fuelled power plants ash-storage lagoons: the Narva Power Plants, located in eastern Estonia, directly on the border with Russia. Fully registered in the field of contemporary art, his work seeks to provoke an environmental reflection whilst giving an aesthetic pleasure.

One’s eye is immediately seduced by the turquoise waters, evoking paradisical places often synonymous with a change of scene and exoticism. The blue colours contrast with the darker ones tending towards brown and seeming to extend into the water. The emerging forms from the wastewater discharge into the lagoon water when seen from the sky create semi-abstract compositions which are at the centre of Bernhard Lang's works.

However, beyond the visual delight they provide, these photographs also show the reality of a natural environment subjected to polluting and intensive industrialisation and provide a viewpoint mostly ignored.

This ambivalence nurtures the whole strength of Bernhard Lang's photography. He has been scouring the world since 2010 to find landscapes drastically marked by man. His photographs then take a vertical standpoint as he captures the panorama from a boat plane or helicopter.

Limited edition prints from this series are available in three formats, all signed by the artist and numbered. The price indicated applies solely to the print, unmounted and unframed. For all specific requests regarding the mount and / or the frame please contact us.
