La sculpture tire son nom du dieu romain Janus car, comme lui, elle a deux faces : elle peut \u00eatre positionn\u00e9e dans les deux sens.\r\n\r\nL'artiste instaure un dialogue visuel entre deux mat\u00e9riaux tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents pour leur aspect et caract\u00e9ristiques. La corde, comme si elle contenait la forte pression exerc\u00e9e par une pierre devenue dynamique, transforme cette derni\u00e8re en un mat\u00e9riau modulable et souple remettant donc en question sa duret\u00e9. Cet alliage est donc \u00e9tonnant et curieux : qui de la corde ou de la pierre exerce une pression sur l\u2019autre ?\r\n\r\nSans pour autant porter en elles une assertion significative marqu\u00e9e, les \u0153uvres de Peter Brooke-Ball surprennent par leur humour, leur sensualit\u00e9 et leur simplicit\u00e9. Comme lui-m\u00eame confie, le souhait est celui de cr\u00e9er des objets qui sont \u00ab\u00a0<em>superbes et avec une pointe de myst\u00e8re<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb. Manifestant parfois une allusion \u00e0 la violence ou \u00e0 la coercition, les sculptures interrogent \u00e9galement les notions de protection et de lien, connect\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e de l\u2019artiste : \u00ab\u00a0<em>Je vois chaque sculpture comme une pens\u00e9e que je veux garder pr\u00e9cieusement en s\u00e9curit\u00e9, de peur qu\u2019elle ne s\u2019\u00e9chappe\u00a0<\/em>\u00bb. Bien que chaque observateur r\u00e9agisse diff\u00e9remment avec sa propre interpr\u00e9tation, les titres des sculptures lui sugg\u00e8rent souvent un concept, une situation ou une \u00e9motion. L\u2019artiste appr\u00e9cie surtout les commentaires des enfants, libres de toute pr\u00e9conception, ainsi que leur relation avec les sculptures, tactile et instinctive.\r\n\r\nLe travail de Peter Brooke-Ball connecte activement et force \u00e0 la coexistence des mat\u00e9riaux dissemblables, qui sont li\u00e9s, suspendus, entour\u00e9s, couverts ou enchain\u00e9s les uns avec les autres. Dans ses sculptures en pierre et corde, l\u2019artiste entend cr\u00e9er un d\u00e9calage en allant \u00e0 l\u2019encontre des propri\u00e9t\u00e9s physiques des mat\u00e9riaux et en travaillant sur un paradoxe qui bouleverse le rapport de force entre ces deux \u00e9l\u00e9ments\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0<em>J\u2019aime l\u2019id\u00e9e que le souple puisse d\u00e9finir la forme de ce qui est dur<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb. Les \u00e9l\u00e9ments esth\u00e9tiques contrastants et \u00e9vocateurs des \u0153uvres de Peter Brooke-Ball contribuent \u00e0 les rendre extr\u00eamement \u00e9nigmatiques, parfois troublantes et
