'Master of your own Destiny II<\/strong><\/em>' est une sculpture en bronze de l'artiste guat\u00e9malt\u00e8que Walter Peter Brenner.
Elle repr\u00e9sente un homme puissamment muscl\u00e9, tenant dans ses mains une masse et une pointe, \u00e0 l'aide desquelles il semble fa\u00e7onner son propre corps dans un bloc de pierre. Son buste et ses bras, saisis dans un mouvement de torsion lat\u00e9rale, \u00e9mergent d\u00e9j\u00e0 de la roche. Cette figure du sculpteur se sculptant lui-m\u00eame \u00e9voque bien s\u00fbr la figure du \"self-made man\" : l'homme parti de rien, qui s'est \u00e9lev\u00e9 par son seul m\u00e9rite. Cette id\u00e9e irrigue le travail de l'artiste, qu'il d\u00e9finit lui-m\u00eame comme l'expression d'un \"h\u00e9ro\u00efsme romantique\" : il d\u00e9fend un \"sens h\u00e9ro\u00efque de la vie, un sentiment que l\u2019homme est en mesure de former et de modeler sa destin\u00e9e\".

'Master of your own Destiny II' est directement inspir\u00e9 du personnage principal du roman Atlas Shrugged<\/em> (La Gr\u00e8ve) de Ayn Rand, v\u00e9ritable plaidoyer en faveur de l'accomplissement individuel. Sa lecture a produit une impression durable sur l'artiste pour qui cette sculpture illustre \"l'ind\u00e9pendance de la pens\u00e9e et la puissance de la volont\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 laquelle chaque homme est en mesure de forger sa propre destin\u00e9e.\"
