Le tout en 7 jours. <span ><a href=\"\/?p=22173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span >Drawing Avenue<\/span><\/a><\/span> est le r\u00e9sultat de cette aventure.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><em><strong><span >\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"  src=\"https:\/\/artistics.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/drawing-avenue-by-guillaume-chansarel-page-int-1_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"628\" height=\"444\" \/><\/p>\n<p >\u00a0<\/p>\n<p ><span >\u00ab\u00a0New York, c\u2019est mon tube de vitamine\u00a0\u00bb d\u00e9clare <span ><a href=\"\/?p=2790\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span >Guillaume Chansarel<\/span><\/a><\/span>. En juin 2017, il parcourt Broadway d\u2019un bout \u00e0 l\u2019autre en partant du Bronx. A chaque croisement, il s\u2019arr\u00eate pour faire un croquis, cherchant \u00e0 saisir l\u2019essence du lieu, \u00e0 capter une \u00e9motion avec la m\u00eame spontan\u00e9it\u00e9 et rapidit\u00e9 qu\u2019il faut pour r\u00e9aliser un selfie. L\u2019artiste cherche \u00e0 adopter le rythme de la ville, \u00e0 se faire \u00ab\u00a0une intraveineuse de New York\u00a0\u00bb. Son projet : repr\u00e9senter en 7 jours tous les croisements de la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre avenue de Manhattan. Pour cela, il s\u2019impose une contrainte de d\u00e9placement et une contrainte de temps : 3 kilom\u00e8tres et 35 dessins par jour. L\u2019exercice artistique se double d\u2019un exercice sportif !\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span >De retour \u00e0 Paris, il reprend chaque dessin, retravaillant tous les encrages, rajoutant des d\u00e9tails, redynamisant les perspectives et proc\u00e9dant aux mises en couleurs. A l\u2019heure de montrer son projet, l\u2019\u00e9vidence s\u2019impose : \u00ab L\u2019histoire ne marche que dans son ensemble \u00bb d\u00e9clare l\u2019artiste pour expliquer comment est n\u00e9e l\u2019id\u00e9e de rassembler tous les dessins dans un livre d\u2019art, simplement intitul\u00e9 <span ><a href=\"\/?p=22173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span >Drawing Avenue<\/span><\/a><\/span>. Tir\u00e9 en \u00e9dition limit\u00e9e de 247 exemplaires &#8211; en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au nombre de dessins qu\u2019il contient &#8211; chaque volume est num\u00e9rot\u00e9 et sign\u00e9 par l\u2019auteur et est accompagn\u00e9 de l\u2019un des 247 dessins originaux.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span ><span >Ce v\u00e9ritable objet d\u2019art est le r\u00e9sultat d\u2019une ann\u00e9e de travail, de la r\u00e9alisation des croquis jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la finalisation du livre. Ses pages nous plongent au coeur de Manhattan, arpentant les 22 kilom\u00e8tres de son art\u00e8re la plus mythique. Colombus Circle, Times Square, Wall Street\u2026 les d\u00e9cors se d\u00e9ploient sur les 516 pages de cet imposant volume o\u00f9 l\u2019on croise toutes les silhouettes famili\u00e8res de la m\u00e9gapole am\u00e9ricaine, des yellow cabs aux \u00e9crans g\u00e9ants accroch\u00e9s aux fa\u00e7ades des gratte-ciels.\u2026 En se calant sur son rythme, Guillaume Chansarel semble parvenir domestiquer la ville r\u00e9put\u00e9e indomptable, nous offrant par l\u00e0 m\u00eame un autre regard sur ses paysages.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span >\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OSNV3Ba-Jy4\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p ><span >\u00ab\u00a0<em>C\u2019est un tableau extraordinaire , une collection d\u2019exultations, une sorte de story-board pour un film imaginaire, passant d\u2019un panoramique d\u00e9labr\u00e9 \u00e0 un gros plan sur un d\u00e9tail (un perron, une bo\u00eete aux lettres, une roue de bus\u2026). Il revisite le r\u00eave am\u00e9ricain en descendant la diagonale du fou dessinateur, comme Kerouac traversa l\u2019Am\u00e9rique dans sa bagnole d\u00e9fonc\u00e9e. Les couleurs se r\u00e9pondent comme des notes de musique. Des tableaux tr\u00e8s construits, tr\u00e8s archi. Des formats \u00e0 la hauteur de sa d\u00e9mesure\u2026 Cette fois-ci j\u2019ai d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de repartir l\u00e0-bas en me fixant un objectif tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cis : retranscrire l\u2019\u00e9nergie ! Voil\u00e0, c\u2019est \u00e7a que j\u2019ai voulu faire. Retranscrire en dessin la mythique \u00e9nergie de Manhattan!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span >Je me suis cal\u00e9 sur le rythme de la ville. Sur sa construction g\u00e9om\u00e9trique : 12 avenues parall\u00e8les et une rue perpendiculaire tous les cent m\u00e8tres. Et tant qu\u2019\u00e0 faire, autant se brancher direct sur l\u2019art\u00e8re aorte de la ville: Broadway Avenue ! Broadway Avenue elle fait 22 km de long, du Nord au Sud ! Elle part du Bronx et elle va jusqu\u2019\u00e0 Wall Street ! Harlem, Columbus Circle, Central Park, Times Square, Flatiron Building, Soho\u2026 elle passe par tous les centres n\u00e9vralgiques cette avenue ! Tous. Elle coupe pas moins de 245 rues. 245 rues vous imaginez ! Franchement, je pouvais pas r\u00eaver mieux comme terrain de jeu, non !?<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span ><em><strong><span >Vous auriez pu travailler \u00e0 partir de photos, mais vous avez choisi de r\u00e9aliser les croquis sur place, ce qui a impos\u00e9 un rythme particulier \u00e0 ce projet puisque vous vous \u00e9tiez par ailleurs donn\u00e9 une contrainte de temps (7 jours). Qu&rsquo;est-ce que ce dessin sur le motif apporte selon vous au r\u00e9sultat final ?<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span >Guillaume Chansarel : Comme je viens de l\u2019expliquer, mon but \u00e9tait que l\u2019on ressente l\u2019\u00e9nergie de Manhattan en parcourant mes dessins. Et puisque l\u2019on dit que New York est la ville qui ne s\u2019arr\u00eate jamais, je me suis dit que j\u2019allais faire pareil. Que j\u2019allais dessiner non stop \u00e0 un rythme effr\u00e9n\u00e9\u2026 Mais il y a aussi autre chose que je recherchais \u00e0 travers cette contrainte de temps, c\u2019est une spontan\u00e9it\u00e9 : \u00e0 chaque nouvel angle de rue il fallait que je trouve un sujet le plus vite possible ! La qu\u00eate du sujet + la construction du dessin ne devaient pas d\u00e9passer 15 mn. En d\u2019autres circonstances je n\u2019aurais sans doute pas choisi de dessiner par exemple une flaque, un vieux caddie, ou encore l\u2019ombre d\u2019un poteau\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span ><em><strong><span >Qu&rsquo;est-ce qui vous a conduit \u00e0 l&rsquo;id\u00e9e du livre pour pr\u00e9senter ce projet et quelle a \u00e9t\u00e9 votre implication dans sa conception ?<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span >Guillaume Chansarel : L\u2019id\u00e9e de faire un livre m\u2019est apparu tr\u00e8s vite. New York, et encore moins l\u2019\u00e9nergie de New York, ne peut \u00eatre synth\u00e9tis\u00e9e en un seul croquis ! Ce projet, c\u2019est un interminable travelling \u00e0 travers la ville. Un d\u00e9roul\u00e9 sans fin\u2026 On avance avec moi en tournant les pages, sans jamais savoir ce que l\u2019on va d\u00e9couvrir. Et puis le choix de Broadway Avenue est loin d\u2019\u00eatre anodin. Cette avenue c\u2019est l\u2019ancien sentier des indiens. C\u2019est par l\u00e0 qu\u2019ils passaient pour aller chasser. Vous voyez un peu, la charge historique du lieu !?<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span >Ce travail \u00e9tant un concept global, j\u2019avais envie de m\u2019occuper de tout. De la maquette jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fabrication. J\u2019ai travaill\u00e9 avec des gens incroyables. Les imprimeries FOT, qui ont tout de suite soutenu et adh\u00e9r\u00e9 au projet, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9rique Beigbeder qui a \u00e9crit une pr\u00e9face qui me fait encore rougir, Ikazi qui a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une maquette sobre et efficace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span ><em><strong><span >Vous dites qu&rsquo;apr\u00e8s cette exp\u00e9rience, vous ne dessinez plus comme avant. Qu&rsquo;est-ce que cela a chang\u00e9 \u00e0 votre fa\u00e7on de dessiner ?<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p ><span ><span >Guillaume Chansarel :\u00a0<\/span>Cette exp\u00e9rience a surtout modifi\u00e9 mon rapport au croquis. Je n\u2019y suis pas encore, et d\u2019ailleurs je ne sais pas si j\u2019y parviendrais un jour, mais j\u2019ai l\u2019impression, petit \u00e0 petit, de me rapprocher du trait d\u00e9complex\u00e9.
