URBANTREE NEGATIVE I is a sculpture by Czech artist Ondřej Oliva (Sculpture on the left in the first image). 

In this sculpture, the artist returns to an important subject in his portfolio, where he attributes an important symbolic value: trees, whose shape Ondřej reinterprets through geometrical stylising until transformed into a sphere. These artworks were inspired by the previous URBANTREE sculptures. The interlacing organic lines forming these sculptures disappear and are transformed into a perfect negative imprint, visible on the surface of the work. The empty and aerial spaces of the URBANTREE are replaced in URBANTREE NEGATIVE by a metallic mass. The word ‘NEGATIVE’ was also chosen to refer to the COVID 19 health crisis period, where the word ‘negative’ was frequently used with a rather positive meaning, implying the absence of infection.

The Czech sculptor, Ondřej Oliva’s artworks are inspired by natural as well as commonplace elements that surround us in everyday life, including certain foods that he revisits to create original sculptures filled with multiple suggestions and references. The choice of material is very important: Ondřej uses bronze or aluminum to give his works a long-term perspective. 

Ondřej Oliva has created three URBANTREE NEGATIVE pieces: URBANTREE NEGATIVE I (50 cm diameter), URBANTREE NEGATIVE II (40 cm diameter) et URBANTREE NEGATIVE III (30 cm diameter).
