About the work :

TN 681 is a painting by Japanese contemporary artist Hachiro Kanno.

This artwork belongs to an abstract register and draws its influences from Japanese calligraphy. The brushstrokes, vigorous and yet elegant, are clearly visible and suggest the painter's gestures. The black and white colors intersect on the canvas, creating layers and transparencies. This painting, created with ink and acrylic, seems to spread a sort of energy and at the same time it invites to meditation.

Coming from a family of traditional calligraphers, Hachiro Kanno paintings are a combination of his oriental heritage and western influences. The artist explores the possibilities of calligraphy, being the foundation to his style, and transforms it into abstract writing, "a writing that has become a painting". Sometimes supple and voluptuous, sometimes tense and controlled, the lines show the gesture's rapidity or, on the other hand, its slowness. With a reduced palette, Hachiro Kanno plays with the contrasts and with others: painted and empty spaces, shadow and light.
