Geometric sculpture: a step towards abstract
At the core of the distinction between figurative sculpture and abstract sculpture is the notion of form. In the first instance, form is realistic and proportionate, in the second, it only refers to itself and its value corresponds to its own meaning. However, the use of form in sculpture does not necessarily lead to the pure abstract. Geometric sculpture is an example of this as it can represent reality thanks to exacting work in shaping. Made up of lines and curves, these rigorous looking works have real evocative power. If geometric sculpture tends towards being more a type of artwork than a real artistic trend, it is in particular by virtue of the fact that it is situated at the crossroads of several methods of expression in the sprawling history of art.
Artistics sculptures
The online art gallery Artistics supports the work of contemporary artists selected to exhibit in this virtual space. Whether in painting, photography or sculpture, it is their technical mastery and creativity that differentiates these artists’ pieces and who revisit various artistic styles and trends, from minimalism to animal art.
Our geometric sculpture artists
Thanks to their approach of geometric sculptures, the artists on Artistics work on figurative subjects in a more or less abstract manner. Jacques Owczarek, whose favourite subject is animal sculpture, is at the centre of a menagerie of dozens of animals with pure forms and fine lines. Delphine Brabant is inspired by architecture. Passionate about large compositions, she produces refined abstract artworks working on her using several materials such as: stone, bronze or concrete. The diversity of materials and the attractiveness of architecture also characterises the works of contemporary sculptor, Alejandro Vega Beuvrin. He creates geometric sculptures that pay homage to his country of origin, Venezuela. In both monumental and in smaller versions, these works have symmetrical shapes inviting the viewer to question their point of view and the relationship within the setting.
