About the work :

Near Samaritaine (Vers Samaritaine) is a work by the contemporary French artist Guillaume Chansarel from the Trampoline series.

After several years of painting the world's megacities as faithfully as possible – the proportions, lights and perspectives - Guillaume Chansarel now has fun tearing up the rules with his new Trampoline series first started in 2022. In these works, the viewer’s gaze is no longer lead by framing or construct; it wanders all over the canvas, bouncing around. The Trampoline series plays with our senses: looking ahead and behind at the same time, raising our eyes to the sky even if the city seems to be at our feet, spinning, flying, twirling, even losing our balance. When tearing up the rules, you may as well go all the way: the paintings’ compositions have been done by the artist so that they can be viewed from every direction. Never upside down or the right way up, it is therefore up to individuals to put their own view onto these paintings.

Megacities are the artist's favorite subject. Through his paintings, Guillaume Chansarel attempts to capture the city's graphic identity, as a photographer would press the shutter button on his camera. The uniqueness of the artist's work lies in the realistic aspect of his work but also on the original use of an innovative support: pages of print from antique books onto which he draws and then paints, and consequently which tells a completely new story.

The artwork is sold unframed and with a certificate of authenticity.
