About the work :

FORBIDDEN FRUIT II is a sculpture by Czech artist Ondřej Oliva.

This sculpture was conceived during his graduation thesis on ‘The Gastronomy and Aesthetics of Food’ and inspired by three years’ experience as a luxury restaurant chef in the United States, where the artist had been impressed with the quantities, colours and smells of the cooked food. In this work, Ondřej created a large apple through the juxtaposition of a myriad of muffin cups. There, the artist toys with the foods’ symbolism: the apple, symbol of original sin and temptation, is related to desserts and cakes, current gastronomic temptations and the ‘forbidden fruits’ for some. The empty forms of the sculpture offer particularly interesting shadow effects.

The Czech sculptor, Ondřej Oliva’s artworks are inspired by natural as well as commonplace elements that surround us in everyday life, including certain foods that he revisits to create original sculptures filled with multiple suggestions and references. The choice of material is very important: Ondřej uses bronze or aluminium to give his works a long-term perspective.

This artwork is from a limited edition of 6 and each edition is sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
