About the work :

Fisherman on the Marañon River (Pescador en el rio Marañón), is a drawing by contemporary Spanish artist Calo Carratalá. This drawing portrays a fisherman boating down the river Marañón, a tributary of the Amazon river in Peru. The river flows through a dangerous tropical forest.

Spanish artist Calo Carratalá shares his vision of the Amazonian rainforest, which he has travelled to on numerous expeditions in Peru, Ecuador and Brazil. Calo Carratalá recreates the landscape, drawing on his personal experiences and the sensations the setting exudes. His paintings and drawings illustrate a forest that he has lived in, transcended and fully assimilated. Without implying it, the artist challenges our relationship with nature, and the ambivalent feelings it can inspire, between fear and fascination

"I am searching for the last great wildernesses which must be preserved" - Calo Carratalá

A one off and signed by the artist. Sold unframed.

Calo Carratalá is a contemporary Spanish artist, based in Valencia, specializing in landscapes. With a passion for traveling, he has visited the Amazon, Colorado, the Alps and the Pyrenees and even the forests of Norway : always armed with sketching pad, the artist sketches the sensations he obtains from the different places he visits. Similar to the artists from the romantic period, Calo Carratalá portrays a natural landscape which is both agitated, perhaps even worrying, and also grandiose inciting admiration and contemplation.
