About the work :

F.200101 is a glass artwork by contemporary Japanese artist Toshio Iezumi from the series "Form".

The Japanese artist’s glass sculptures surprises viewers through their changing aspects and their elegant and poetic presence.  Shades of highly intense or very clear green, real or illusionary volumes, internal spaces that one tries to decipher, unexpected distortions reflected on the surface, an impression of movement created by alternating concave and convex forms...  Glass, with its ability to refract light, is the absolute protagonist in these pieces, brought out by the artist’s skill and experience.  The sculpture’s organic form draws on nature’s elements: the waves made by the wind on the water or grass, the sea’s waves, the stones’ roundness and smoothness.

Toshio Iezumi ‘s sculpturing technique is long and complex.  He starts by gluing glass sheets together, tinted green by the iron content, creating a deeper hued block of glass. He then uses an angle grinder, normally used for carving stone, to shape the sculpture. The next step is to remove the surface scratches with abrasive grinding grits. Finally, polishing with a felt buff gives the sculpture its transparency, and totally changes its appearance. The artist is looking for the perfect balance between shape (with grinding) and texture (with polishing), to bring out the artwork.

In the ‘Form’ series, started in 1998, the artist decided to work with round and oval shapes. A viewer’s gaze is drawn in and spellbound by the organic shapes, that give the sculptures a very delicate appearance, as well as by the deep blue and green shades of the layered glass sheets.

This artwork is sold in a limited edition of 5 copies. It is sold with its certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
