About the work :

Exterre is a painting by the German contemporary artist Emanuel Schulze.

This work of art represents architectural elements, characteristic of the artist’s work, that stand in an enigmatic and abstract landscape. Unlike the other paintings, here the structure is incomplete, semi-transparent and moving, as it was dissolving into the landscape. To give depth to this painting, the artist plays on the reflections of the architectural elements. This painting immerses the spectator into a dreamlike universe devoid of human presence.

Also a stage designer, Emanuel Schulze takes a particular interest in the planning of space, which he transposes into his paintings. According to him, geometric shapes are essential as they allow us to structure and bound our living world. The landscaped spaces, the second central element of his work, are elaborate with much more experimentation and without exact planning, leaving more space for imagination. Emanuel Schulze plays on the tension between the technical precision of architectural forms and the pictorial freedom of landscaped spaces.
