About the work :

Dragoness is a work by contemporary Argentinian artist Marcelo Martin Burgos. As the title suggests, the artwork is of a dragoness, with the distinctive elements of the mythical animal, such as the mouth breathing fire or clawed feet. The artist seems to be influenced by Asian dragon iconography, as his bronze dragon is wingless. The work represents an imaginary animal.

Marcelo Burgos' artistic world is deeply rooted in childhood: children's dreams and nightmares, populated by fantastic creatures, demons, monsters and dragons, provide the artist with his primary source of inspiration. His series The Monsters draws as much from children's drawings, cartoons and manga as from African and Toltec sculpture. Far from being frightening, these creatures, with their golden surface, are reminiscent of statues of deities that provide both protection and comfort.

His sculptures are created in bronze, a material he appreciates for its nobility, its versatility and, above all, for the way its surface looks when polished: reflective like a mirror. This reflective aspect is a way of including the viewer in his works and turns his sculptures into powerful evocations of childhood: "My aim is to conjure images and feelings that can remind us of the most creative, amazing and frightening years of our lives: the ‘golden’ age of childhood."

Original artwork: limited edition of 8 + 4 artist's proof, each sculpture is sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
