Geometric painting: Simple abstract?

Like Colour Field Painting as well as Minimalism, contemporary painter and sculptor, Ellsworth Kelly said of his work: “My shapes are geometric…these are forms that exist everywhere, even if we don’t see them.” This principle defines a certain abstract trend in an interesting way. Abstract painting is partially a geometric painting, that does not represent figurative reality, but a version of shapes in the real world.

It is a new way of describing nature through implication rather than representation. In the theory of aesthetics of the 20th century, geometric art sits at a crossroads of several emerging beliefs. If it is obviously abstract, then this today’s pictures also play a large role in the theory of minimal art. Minimalism in painting generally claims to come straight from an absence of a subjective point of view and that goes hand in hand with the refusal to interpret reality. However, geometric painting is not radically opposed to figurative painting. All natural objects are made up of shapes that contemporary painters capture on canvas.

The online art gallery Artistics selects international contemporary artists to promote and represent. These sculptors, painters or photographers are united by the originality of their work, as well as by their excellent technical mastery as demonstrated in their preferred medium. They all have personal views on the world and on art. In their own ways, they all exemplify major contemporary aesthetic art trends and theories. Our geometric paintings artists

The Spanish painter, Ramon Enrich depicts imaginary uninhabited places, bathed in a warm and somewhat disturbing atmosphere. His colourful paintings are made up of buildings, houses and monuments through a combination of lines, curves and shapes that meet in the middle of the canvas creating timeless geometric paintings.

The work of Korean artist Ahn Hyun-Ju is above all experimental. She paints on aluminium supports that sometimes breakaway from traditional frame shapes (square or rectangular). Her painting explores the expressive richness that come between contrasting colours, shapes and techniques. As an example, some of her artworks combine perfect uniformly coloured canvases with randomly shaped drips.

In an equally minimalist way, Doris Marten explores the effects that arise through colour association. In repeating lines, she manages to create a multiplying effect (7 colours appear to be 100), of movement, of light (‘Light’n’Lines’ series) and of overlapping layers (‘Layers’ series)… If it can be described as geometric, Doris Marten’s painting is less a study on shape than on rhythm.
