After the rain, Buachaille Etive Mor is a landscape painting by contemporary Scottish artist Jonathan Shearer. Often inspired by the impetuous nature, Jonathan Shearer has painted here a Scottish Highlands’ mountain. In this painting, the Scottish mountain’s pyramidal shape is hard to recognise, but the artistic work on the light is typical of the artist’s paintings. 

Although the paintings by Jonathan Shearer are inspired by a precise landscape in a precise moment, they appear somehow timeless and placeless. They are not simply a reproduction of nature but a personal reinterpretation in which the artist’s perceptions, imagination and emotions are essential for the final artwork.

Before painting, Jonathan Shearer totally immerges himself in the wild landscapes and establishes a connection by extensively walking through them, by contemplating them and by visiting them multiple times. On site he draws small oil sketches and takes digital photographs, which he uses as a reference for the final artworks that he paints later at the studio. His way of painting at the studio is strongly gestural and vigorous, causing sometimes the paint to run and drip on the surface.
