About the work :

Aerial Views, Harbour 02 is a photograph by German contemporary artist Bernhard Lang.

It is taken from the Harbour series photographed from above Bremerhaven (the port for the town of Bremen, in the north of Germany), one of the biggest ports in Europe concentrating its activity primarily on exporting the German car industry. Every year, more than a million cars transit the port and as many containers. Viewed from the sky, these impeccably aligned containers form colorful mosaics and their number is proof of the flourishing maritime trade, in a totally globalized economy.

Between landscape photography and abstract, this series perfectly illustrates Bernhard Lang's approach: his work seeks to provoke a concern for the environment while providing visual pleasure. Because even if, initially, the very graphic compositions of the Harbour series are eye-catching, they also show the extent of the industrial activity and its brutal consequences on the environment.

The real strength of Bernhard Lang's work lies in this ambivalence. He has been steadily traveling the world since 2010 in the search of landscapes extremely marked by man, that he photographs from a vertical point of view, from an ultralight aircraft or helicopter.

Prints of Bernhard Lang's photographs are sold in limited edition.

This picture from the Harbour series is available in 3 different formats :
