About the work :

Aerial Views, African Mines 008 is a photograph by German contemporary artist Bernhard Lang from the series African Mines.

In-between landscape and abstract photography, this series perfectly illustrates Bernhard Lang's approach: fully embedded in the field of contemporary art, his work seeks to provoke environmental reflection whilst providing aesthetic pleasure.

Bernhard Lang produced this series from satellite images. These images seen from the sky allow us fly over African mines located in Zambia, Botswana and Niger where the mining of diamonds, gold, nickel or uranium forms abstract compositions in varied colours and very rich in details.

Initially pleasing to the eye, his photographs also aim to show the ecological reality: the exploitation of environments in natural regions, implying irreversible consequences on the ecosystems of the illustrated locations.

It is this ambivalence that is the strength of Bernhard Lang's photographic work. Since 2010, he has travelled the world in search of landscapes strongly scarred by man’s imprint, which he photographs from aerial viewpoints using a ultra-light plane or a helicopter.

Limited edition prints from this series are available in three formats, all signed by the artist and numbered. The price indicated applies solely to the print, unmounted and unframed. For more information, please contact us.
